Brookfield Multiplex to build $450 million Indooroopilly Shopping Centre Redevelopment

Brookfield Multiplex has secured the contract to extend and refurbish Brisbane’s iconic retailing hub, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. Commencing in the first quarter of 2012 and continuing for 30 months, the transformation of Indooroopilly will include the addition of around 30,000 square metres of new retail space comprising:

· a new mall and fresh food area,

· a new 14,200 square metre David Jones department store

· a newly fitted out Myer department store on a reconfigured two level footprint

· a new supermarket

· additional parking spaces

· significant upgrades to external facades and

· a facelift for existing retail precincts within the centre

Following the redevelopment, the size of Indooroopilly Shopping Centre’s retail space will increase to around 115,000 square metres and will house around 340 specialty retailers.

“Brookfield Multiplex is very excited to be a part of this project which represents one of the largest redevelopment investments made in Brisbane’s retailing sector over the past decade,” said David Ghannoum, Regional Managing Director Brookfield Multiplex.

Project backer, Eureka Funds Management, acting on behalf of Centre Owner Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, announced yesterday that retailing giant David Jones will be headlining a raft of new retailers for the centre, heralding a new age of fashion dominance.

“David Jones, which has carefully selected Indooroopilly because of the strong demographics of the centre and the western corridor catchment area in which the centre is located,” said Bob Kelly, Managing Director Eureka Funds Management.

“David Jones’ pre-commitment to this redevelopment is a resounding endorsement of Indooroopilly Shopping Centre’s demographic reach, strategic location, and dynamic retail mix,” he said.

The redevelopment of Indooroopilly Shopping Centre marks the successful culmination of four years of planning and consultation with Brisbane City Council, various State Government agencies and some of the very best retailers. It will create 1,500 new jobs (during the construction phase) and around 1,200 permanent, part-time and casual positions upon completion.
