Brookfield Multiplex's award-winning One Shelley Street has received a 6 Star Green Star – Office As Built V2 certified rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) representing world leadership in environmentally sustainable building practices and the highest form of recognition possible.
One Shelley Street is only the 10th building in Australia to achieve this certification and now has the certification in both ‘design’ and ‘as built’ categories.
Spanning 33,000 square metres over 11 levels, the project has received much attention for its innovative and unique design. The award winning property, owned and operated by Brookfield Office Properties, is fully leased to Macquarie Group and was built by affiliate Brookfield Multiplex.
A range of sustainable design features have been achieved including a passive chilled beam HVAC system, harbour water heat rejection, low flow water fixtures, and a high performance facade and central atrium that promotes natural light and mitigates solar load.
“To achieve a Green Star ‘Design’ rating requires a commitment to innovation and a holistic approach to green building design. By backing this up with a Green Star ‘As Built’ rating, Brookfield Multiplex has confirmed that the sustainable design intentions were implemented during the construction process. We congratulate the project team for delivering a truly world-class green building,” says Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia, Romilly Madew.
Green Star recognises and rewards environmental leadership within the built environment. Since Green Star was introduced in 2003, 340+ projects have been certified and another 500+ projects are registered to be assessed under Green Star rating tools.
One Shelley Street has won numerous awards for innovation and sustainability including the Australian Property Institute Excellence in Property Award in 2009, Master Builders Association Excellence in Construction - Best Use of Steel Award in 2009, The Australian Institute of Building National and NSW Professional Excellence Award for Commercial Construction over $100 million in 2009, the Property Council of Australia Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in 2010, the Australian Steel Institute Architectural Steel Design Award, the Structural Engineering Steel Design Award and Multi-level Steel Design Award in 2010 and Engineers Australia Excellence Award in 2010.
