What is it like to work in a team at Brookfield Multiplex?
Working with Brookfield Multiplex provides an opportunity to learn from some of the industries most talented and experienced participants, both within our own organisation as well as from key external consultant and subcontractor resources.
Graduates and cadets find themselves immersed in a rich learning experience. With a relatively flat management structure, it is common to interact with senior managers as everyone is seen as critical team member. With interstate and international networking opportunities, I also feel a big part of the whole business.
What is one of the greatest opportunities you have had?
I have been fortunate enough to be awarded the John C Roberts AO Development Scholarship, which is offered annually to one outstanding graduate in the final year of their program. John Roberts (Multiplex founder) was an active supporter of young people starting their careers and the scholarship was established in recognition of his legacy and to honour his contribution to the industry. As the recipient in 2008, I will be embarking on a fully funded three month overseas development opportunity which I am very excited about completing this year.
What is the greatest challenge you have had?
Whilst undertaking work experience, I displayed a keen interest in Environmentally Sustainable Design. With the support of Brookfield Multiplex, this interest was translated into an opportunity to coordinate and manage the project Green Star submission for the Southern Cross West Tower. This provided a conduit to work with the market leading experts including Architects, ESD consultants and subcontractors and not only learn but become involved in sustainable design.
What is the funniest moment you have had at Brookfield Multiplex?
Three weeks after commencing with Brookfield Multiplex, I attended a subcontractor function evening and unknowingly approached the Managing Director of Multiplex Constructions Australasia and asked him “which of our Subcontractors do you work for?”
How did you manage to study and work at the same time?
Brookfield Multiplex provides an excellent support structure for students interested in undertaking work experience and part time or full time employment. As an organisation, they take great interest in the development of young people and encourage practical, on the job training that complements university studies.
The cadet and graduate talent program and the mentoring provided, immerses employees in a rich learning experience focused on preparation for future responsibilities.
We are provided with a support network and a platform of practical experience and development which reinforces learning from university, leaving cadets in no doubt that their studies are considered the most important objective.
